Montauk Point/North Fork : I went out to Montauk Point early in the spring. I visted the old Military Coastal Deffense Base (Camp Hero), and latter the Montauk Air Force Station, which is home to the only SAGE Radar Dish left in the Country. Camp Hero is the site of many conspiracy theories and claims of mind control, death rays, and time travel. Camp Hero Served as a coastal deffense station for the army during World War II, and latter as a deffense and alert station during the cold war to detect and intercept Soviet Bombers. The site is now a State Park.

Kings Park Phsyciatric Center : I went out to the now defunct Kings Park Phsyciatric Institute to explore the grounds and was lucky enough to gain entry into one of the buildings within the New York State Park portion of the property. The building which I entered was building 39 which was built in 1931 and was a continued care building which included dormitories, bathrooms, showers, sun rooms (solariums) and recreation rooms. The builidng was part of Group 2 which also includes building 138 which served the same purpose and 139 which was Kitchen D which serviced both buildings through connected enclosed pathways. Building 39 was much the same as it must have been during its service, and still included some beds, paintings, a fire extinguisher, mops, a telephone, fire hoses, wet floor signs and many other items linking the building to its past. Entering the building felt as if you were traveling back to a simpler time, and you could really get a feel for what it must have been like to have lived or worked in the building. The entire Kings Park Facility closed its doors for good in 1996 but had been fazing out many buildings for quite some time before. All remaining patients were transfered to Pilgrim State along with those remainging at Central Islip. Pilgram State continues to operate 3 of the buildings while the others at the several hundred acre site sit vacant and decaying as a silent reminder to a past long gone. At its height the Kings Park Facility contained over 9,000 patients and was composed of over 150 buildings. Kings Park was one of four phsychiatric hospitals on Long Island: Kings Park, Central Islip, Edgewood (which no longer stands) and Pilgrim(still in operation at a much lower capacity). The mental institutes were placed out East on Long Island in order to provide rest and relaxtion for patients and to get them out of the busy city. The early hospitals were called farm colonies and patients farmed and spent much of their time out doors. The Kings Park Facility was completely self sufficient with its own rail line, power plant, dairy, hospital, fire and police, and farms for a steady food supply. In the 1970's the State of New York Found it illegal to work residents without pay so the farming of the hospitals own food ended, and patients spent much of their time in their dorms and watching tv. The common practices up until the event of proper medication was insulin and electoshock therapy and lobotamies. With the advent of new medications many patients were discharged into the community and the hospital was slowly fazed out until its closing as previously mentioned.(DISCLAIMER: All buildings are off limits and entrance is restricted. If you get caught you face jail time and severe fines. I am not responsible for your actions if you were to enter a building and got injured, fined, caught and or incacerated, I will not disclose any information as to how to gain entrance to any of the buildings. I wish to only bring you the images of the granduer of former center for your viewing pleasure.)
